Speaker 1 00:00:04 Hey guys, it's Ron Howard and we got another episode of Moving to Maryland. I'm here with Nick and Megan. Hey guys. Hey, good morning. Good morning. So you guys are gonna laugh. We're gonna talk about one of my favorite neighborhoods, <laugh>. And this time I really mean it cuz I am in Harbor East in Baltimore City. Like every day, like
Speaker 2 00:00:18 No, I agree.
Speaker 1 00:00:18 It is one of my go-to for so many different things. Nick, if you had to explain where it's located, what would you say?
Speaker 3 00:00:24 So it's close to downtown on the east side of the city. So if you're coming through downtown, when you turn on President Street, it's right there on the water. So you have Fells Point a little bit to the East 83, just North. Um, so it's in a central location from the city and it's very accessible.
Speaker 2 00:00:39 Yeah. And you have, I mean, you have great access, like you said, right? You take President Street and you are able to go right onto 83, but then you also are able to kind of take the side streets through downtown and hit 6 95 95 to make sure that you get out of the city.
Speaker 1 00:00:52 Yeah. And it's such a new part of the city with Harbor Point being built right behind it. Um, one of the things I like most about, I mean, God, there's so somebody else. So much I like, so, uh, a thing I like about Harbor East is it's so close to all the other neighborhoods. You got, uh, little Italy, you got Fells Point, you got Inner Harbor. Uh, what is it that you like most about Harbor East?
Speaker 3 00:01:14 I mean, it's, it's got a little bit, it's got everything, you know, it's got shopping, it's got entertainment, you know, I, I like Harbor East a lot because it's walkable to Pier Six, so there's a lot of really good, great concerts that go on there. I want to go see ZZ Top there during the summer. Oh, nice. Which was really, really cool. Yeah, they still rock, which is, which is awesome. There's a lot of stuff to do in Harbor East.
Speaker 2 00:01:33 I like the, uh, kind of like the chic elegant feel of Harbor East. I mean, when you kind of get into Harbor East, you can tell the difference between kind of the historic, charming, cute to Fells point. Oh yeah. And then obviously the Italy, right. But then you get into Harbor East and you're like, I'm here at a kind of shop, have a good time and just enjoy like high end luxury and Baltimore.
Speaker 1 00:01:58 Yeah. I mean with the retail shops and then the housing, which we'll get into towards the end of this, um, most of it's catered towards high end. Yep. Luxury or, or at least a good part of it, right? Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:02:08 <affirmative>. Definitely.
Speaker 1 00:02:09 Um, what are some of your best, your favorite restaurants?
Speaker 3 00:02:12 Charleston Hands down is probably my favorite. I mean that's, you know, when you think of like high class Michelin star dining, you know, it's an experience there. And I had, you know, kind of a religious one the first time I went there and it's probably like my first, you know, my favorite restaurant in the city. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:02:26 It's an experience to go there and if anybody lives in Baltimore and hasn't been, you need to go cuz it is just incredible for me. My favorite restaurant, well it's kind of, I guess a restaurant, but I like Harbor East Deli, <laugh>. Um, but for, I mean, I just love it. You get, uh, I love sandwiches so there I can get a good sandwich, a good pizza, and they're open late night too, so that's helpful.
Speaker 1 00:02:49 <laugh>. Yeah. We love Tag. Mm-hmm. I mean mm-hmm. <affirmative>, we, we love a Zoomi, we love the lock bar. We love, uh, so many of the places there. Yeah. Um, the, uh, tag, they have a ribeye that they cook in a way that caramelizes the fat into a crispy outside. I've never seen anything like
Speaker 3 00:03:10 It. I just ate, but now I'm hungry again. I know.
Speaker 1 00:03:12 It's so good.
Speaker 2 00:03:13 Oh, another favorite restaurant that I forgot to mention cuz I'm there like almost every time is Monarch. So it's behind Taglia and it's, I go on the weekends because that's when they have their burlesque shows. It is incredible. You kind of walk into like this speakeasy vibe. They have the burlesque show and then also we're a part of, um, the Lollipop Club. So it's like this cigar club and you just go right in from Monarch and it, it's just a really cool time.
Speaker 1 00:03:37 Yeah. Through the Elk Room. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:03:39 No, there's tons, there's tons of different options. I mean, like you said, tag is Italian, you also have chia there, which is great. You have a Zumi, which is sushi. You have to have, you
Speaker 1 00:03:47 Got three sushi,
Speaker 3 00:03:48 Three sushi restaurants. I, there's um, Lebanese Taverna, which is also one of my favorites. That place is, that place is awesome. There's no shortage of excellent dining options. And then you also have, you know, little Italy, which is a close walk in Fell Point, which is a close walk.
Speaker 1 00:04:01 And then you got Begon up on top of the Four Seasons. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> with amazing views. It almost feels like you're in Vegas with overlooking
Speaker 2 00:04:08 The city. I,
Speaker 3 00:04:08 Right. Yeah. Great views. Go up there at night and you can see the whole city lit up. It's, it's really, uh, a sight to see mm-hmm. <affirmative>,
Speaker 1 00:04:15 The shopping there as a go-to for me, uh, you know, uh, especially holidays, you know, I, I buy a lot online, like a lot of us do, but when I need a nice gift, you got Lululemon, you got Under Armor. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, one of their, um, flagship stores there. Uh, j Crew you got, I mean, uh, is it J Crew? No, it's, yes, it's J Crew. It's J Crew. Yeah. Yeah. Um, just a great place you can, you know, zigzag through Harbor East and get some really nice gifts for people. Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:04:40 It's great. And I mean, I think also too, which is a good spot to notice, is that there's like an immense amount of parking. There's parking garages. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So cuz really, I mean, you could park on the street in Harbor East, but there's no actual sort of extra parking mm-hmm. <affirmative> and having those parking garages, you're able to take the time and walk through and enjoy Harbor East.
Speaker 1 00:04:58 I go to Whole Foods once a week and you go in their parking garage, it's in, it's out. They got the liquor store there if you're, you know, if you're gonna get some Yeah. Something to drink. Uh, you know what's interesting about Whole Foods? They have a really, really good Asian food restaurant up in their, it's almost hidden. Like if you lunchtime go in there, they, they do ramen and bowls and all kinds of really cool stuff. Oh, nice stuff. I, I stumbled upon it. I had to take a call, actually I was in Whole Foods and walked upstairs. I was like, wow, this place is really cool. Yeah. It overlooks the water. It's really
Speaker 3 00:05:27 Nice. Oh, that's awesome. Nice. Yeah, I never knew. I just, I mostly just shopped there. Yeah. I never knew there was a secret restaurant.
Speaker 2 00:05:32 Well then you also have the brand new movie theme that, that just reopened. Yep. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, which was great. I kind of missed that during c o and now it's open and it's, it's really a good spot again, just to, and I don't think there's any other movie theater close to us. No, not not close. You have go
Speaker 1 00:05:49 To, um,
Speaker 3 00:05:49 The Charles Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> up in, up in, uh, or go out into the counties, you know, the White Marsh right. Or um, east Point Mall. Yeah. Over in Dun Da you go find, go see a movie.
Speaker 1 00:05:58 So Harbor East is a, is a true destination where you can go have dinner, you can have drinks, you can see a burle, you know, you can see some entertainment. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Uh, and then if you want work your way over into Fells Point, you can go in the Little Italy. There's just, it's such a great place. Uh, easy parking, um, you know, in garage parking, which Right. Pe people like. So, um, what about, um, you know, I mean obviously it's close to Hopkins and University of Maryland, so, uh, in that regard, um, you're close to those type of places, right?
Speaker 2 00:06:34 Well, you also have, um, right where J Crew is right above is, uh, Johns Hopkins, uh, carry School of Business. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so a lot of Johns Hopkins students will actually go there. Um, if they're not staying in some of the apartments that are around Harbor Research, we'll talk about a little bit. But, you know, the School of Business is right there. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:06:51 Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:06:52 We, um, you know, over the years I've met people that have been staying, you know, for six months while, uh, in like, especially the Eden apartment building mm-hmm. <affirmative> mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I think is known for short term rentals where, um, you know, whether they or somebody from their families getting treatment at Hopkins. And, um, you know, there are, there are. And, and we'll get into that a little bit later, uh, of range of, uh, apartment or condo options cuz there are no renovated town homes. No. In, in, in, uh, Baltimore. So we talked a little bit about nightlife. Uh, what are your, some of your favorite, like if, if, uh, obviously we, we, we got into the restaurants, but if you're going out and you're gonna harbor East for nightlife, where are you going?
Speaker 2 00:07:33 Well, I kinda already said it, but I'm gonna go to Monarch <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:07:36 Uh, for me, you know, if, if I'm bringing somebody from out of town, you know, it's definitely the bygone, you know, you have a cocktail up on, on the top floor, the Four Seasons, you know, you get the view, snap a couple pictures, you know. Um, and that's always great too. Like you said, Monarch, you can really go to anywhere. A lot of 'em are more, um, you know, restaurant kind of style. But if you kind of do want more of that bar experience, there's that jazz club. Yes. There. Um,
Speaker 1 00:08:00 Cali's got a nice
Speaker 3 00:08:01 Bar. Shali has a really nice bar too. Um, block
Speaker 1 00:08:04 Bar. Block bar. Block bar in the summertime. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> right on the water. Right.
Speaker 2 00:08:07 Yeah. Also Ozu, uh, bay. Ozu Bay, um, across the way is the beach park. The beach, which is outside under a beautiful, like little canopy. Great spot. Yep,
Speaker 3 00:08:16 Yep. For sure.
Speaker 2 00:08:18 I like, um, especially for like activities, I always feel like Harbor East is doing something in terms of activities. Um, so I feel like sometimes, especially in like the wintertime or you know, occasionally in the summer they have live bands just sitting on the street, you know, they're handing out different, like a hot chocolate or
Speaker 1 00:08:34 Something Rose All Day
Speaker 2 00:08:35 Festival. Right. Like, it just, there's something always going on there. And also there's like a huge fashion show in, I missed it this September, but they have, they set up, they shut down the streets, they set up a large runway and they just show off all the amazing, you know, clothing that for that season. It's really cool.
Speaker 1 00:08:52 Then you have, um, you have the Black Swan, which is a, a nice newer restaurant mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, you know, uh, it borders. So there's a, you know, there's a, uh, Harbor East Borders, little Italy. Locas is like right on the edge of, uh, Harbor East. So, you know, one of our favorite restaurants. So yes, classic. You almost gotta mention that that's the thing that the, the blurry line of, or not the blurry line, but the accessibility to all these other great places in the other neighborhoods. It's, it's really hard just to say Harbor East has this, it's because it's got five minutes away. It's got all this other stuff. Like in Phil's point. Yeah,
Speaker 3 00:09:26 Yeah. You go, you could walk right to the, it's five minutes to the horse you came in on, you know, and mm-hmm. <affirmative> One Eye Mike's, which recently just closed down. Um, you know, and Kat's Eye, it's, it's a short walk to, to really great nightlife options in Fells Point. So you don't have to stay within the neighborhood. It's, you know, it's really close. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:09:43 Was anybody a member of Wino Mikes? Like, I was,
Speaker 2 00:09:46 I was not a
Speaker 3 00:09:47 Little bit before my time. The
Speaker 1 00:09:48 Grandier. Yeah. That's cool. Cool though. It's, you know, it's been around for
Speaker 2 00:09:52 A, I was a member of the Horsey came in on, uh, Jack Daniels club, but, uh, that shut down for Covid. So <laugh>.
Speaker 1 00:09:59 All right. So let's talk about real estate options in Harbor East. What, uh,
Speaker 2 00:10:04 So I think we already kind of touched on it, but it's really just condos and apartments. There's no, unfortunately no really town homes in that area, just because it's a lot of high rises,
Speaker 1 00:10:14 But there are some surrounding neighborhoods that have town
Speaker 2 00:10:16 Homes. Correct. Exactly. But specifically Harbor East is mainly just those condos and apartments, right?
Speaker 3 00:10:21 Yeah. So you have like 1400 Lancaster, which has great water views. You have, um, you know,
Speaker 1 00:10:27 And, and on the border, some people would call that Fells Point. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but, uh, some people call it Harbor East,
Speaker 3 00:10:31 Right? Yeah, exactly. I mean, and then, you know, if you're, if you're wanting a little bit of a higher end option, you know, the, the, the residence is at the Four Seasons. Yes. You know, have some beautiful, beautiful places. Um, if you're looking for renting, there's a lot of mixed options. Like Scarlet Place, which is kind of on the border between there in Little Italy is both condos and apartments. You have the Avalon, which was just built mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, you have, yeah.
Speaker 2 00:10:53 Those are strictly apartments. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 00:10:54 <affirmative>. Yeah. And then Condos. You have the Eden is one that's, that's the, well,
Speaker 2 00:10:59 The Eden's apartment apartments as well. But the, I think when my husband and I were thinking of moving here, we looked at the View, um, which is, uh, so if you're looking at Four Seasons, it's across the way in the circle. Right. Um, but they have also, like, it's just so cool. Like a high rise to me is very, almost New York City s but you're just looking at other buildings and then you're so close to the harbor that you're able to see the water. It's great. But, um, with a lot of those condos, especially the view, you have access to the Mac, which is the Mari Maryland Athletic Center. Um, so it's a nice workout place. Next, um, there's also a CBS Right on, um, I think it's Fleet. Fleet, yep. It's got my
Speaker 1 00:11:36 Passport photo there yesterday.
Speaker 2 00:11:37 I'd have to get mine too. <laugh>, but I mean, for whether you're a student or a medical student or somebody who works at Johns Hopkins or just wants to enjoy High Rise City living in Baltimore, Harvard East is where you wanna look
Speaker 3 00:11:52 For Sure. And not only in the medical field, but the finance field as well. Youve Brian, advisory Morgan Stanley, and then t Rowe Price is is building their new headquarters right around the corner there. So for, you know, people who work in finance too, it's a great hub to be so close to where you work.
Speaker 1 00:12:07 Exelon is right there. Exactly. Yeah. They built their headquarters. They're, they're international headquarters. Yeah. Right there in Baltimore City at a time when not a lot of people were, were doing that. Um, the Four Seasons, the, you know, some of the nicest condos in Yes. The whole state. Yeah, right. Like really super high end, multi-million dollar places that, uh, if that's, uh, what you're looking for, that that is really the, the place to go. But then there is a cascading, um, you know, lower price points all the way into the view. And, um, there's another building in that building, um, uh, you know, where, where you're at smaller, more affordable, less amenities. Right. Everything in between, right. Yeah. Uh, rentals, there's, there's just so many rental buildings. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, what are some of those? Eat The Eden. The Eden, um, Avalon, which, which you mention, right? Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:12:59 <affirmative>. So, but also too, I mean, sometimes like people will buy out those condos in the view and rent 'em out. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, so there's also those options as well. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:13:06 So I've had many, well, I've had, I've had quite a few clients that have sold their house cuz they got to a certain point in life where they wanted easier living and then had moved into Harbor East. Yeah. Um, but there is a, the, the nice thing about Harbor East is that what a blend of, um, you know, uh, just a, a really blend. Everybody I meet from Harbor East seems to be different, different age, different ethnicity, you know, different backgrounds. It, it's, uh,
Speaker 3 00:13:34 It's a melting pot of
Speaker 2 00:13:36 Culture. I was just about to say that. <laugh>. Yeah. <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:13:38 And it, and it really reflects in the neighborhood too, you know, from, from dining options, shopping options, you know, um, it really is a, a great place to attract people from any walk of life.
Speaker 2 00:13:49 Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:13:49 And then, you know, easily get to all the other really cool spots in the, in the city. And, you know, that's, that's really, it's at a, at a, so it, it is the corner of the southeast, the first like kind of neighborhood of what you would call the southeast, where you got, you know, Phelps Point, Ken Butchers Hill, literally, all that kind of stuff. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. But you can very easily get in Inner Harbor and walk a across the promenade too, like the sign center and Federal Hill or Yeah. Some of the, some of the places really, really easily. So,
Speaker 2 00:14:15 Absolutely.
Speaker 3 00:14:16 Yep.
Speaker 1 00:14:17 Anything else you think is important to talk about in Harbor East?
Speaker 2 00:14:21 It's just a good spot if you wanna ex like, explore Baltimore and kind of feel like, just really live in Baltimore, I would suggest kind of take it a look there first.
Speaker 3 00:14:31 Yeah. It's a, it's, it's a great central spot if you wanna be close to everything but, and want to have everything that you know is right outside your front door. You can't really go wrong with Harbour East.
Speaker 1 00:14:41 Right. So we are all real estate agents and our office is right next to Harbor East and Fells Point. We know that market really well. So if you wanna come down, uh, have us show you around Harbour East or some of the surrounding communities, we'd love to help. Our contact info is in this post. Take care. Hope to see you soon.
