Speaker 1 00:00:03 Welcome to another episode of Moving to Maryland. Today we're gonna talk about our favorite restaurants in Fells Point. I'm here with Nick and Caitlin. Hey guys. What's up? Hello. So, we are located in Fells Point, and what's really cool is we can walk to one of like 50 restaurants within like 10 minutes. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. And when, uh, you're thinking back on a lunch, Nick, what, let's just, let's talk about lunch. Where, where would you Speaker 3 00:00:28 Go? Because it is lunchtime and I'm hungry. So my normal go-to is probably Cooper's. That's where, um, you know, great bar food, uh, right, right on Tame Street, right across the street from the water. Speaker 1 00:00:38 Everybody's happy at Cooper's. It was such a good range of the chicken, Sammy. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, I, I tell you, the way that they blackened their salmon, uh, is, is perfect. Like a lot of people mess that up. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, and they do such a good job. So it's definitely one of my favorites as well. What about you, Caitlin? Ooh, Speaker 2 00:00:53 Probably ve mm. Yeah. For lunch or dinner, but their takeout is incredible. They were just actually nominated for a James Beard Award. Wow. Um, which is extremely impressive for a, you know, they started at farmer's markets and now they have three brick and mortar locations. They're just killing it. They're killing it. Speaker 1 00:01:12 Their chicken sandwich is so good. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yes. I mean, their sauce, their pickled onions, everything about what they do Speaker 3 00:01:19 Is just, they got me hooked on tofu, weirdly enough. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Cause I used to hate it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And then they were like, here, try this. And I was like, this is Tofu <laugh>. And they're like, yeah. And I was like, and then now it's my go-to the tofu bra. I get it every time I go to ECU Bend now. Yep. Speaker 1 00:01:31 Well, yeah, I mean, I, we do it, uh, we, we, we order from there and, and pick up, uh, it's, I mean, it's a carry out. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, there's like, you can, there's maybe like five seats in Yeah. Fell's Point location. Barely. Speaker 3 00:01:41 Yeah. Speaker 1 00:01:42 Yeah. And it's up for James Beard Award. That's Speaker 2 00:01:44 Amazing. Yeah. Yeah. Really impressive. Speaker 1 00:01:45 Other lunch spots? Uh, duck, duck Goose. What, what about that? That's, Speaker 3 00:01:49 I mean, it's classic French food. I mean, the Chef Al, he does a great job. He has a creative menu. He's classically trained. The restaurant has an awesome ambiance, white tablecloth, but with really cool artwork on the walls. Great cocktails. Um, they have an outdoor patio in the back, which is awesome. Great wine list, if you like. That kind of classic dining. Can't be duck, duck, Speaker 2 00:02:14 Goose. Oh, yeah. And just another note on that patio in the back, it's not just like in the back, it's like a secluded courtyard inside of the restaurant. So it's like a whole other thing than I feel like, honestly anywhere else in Baltimore. Like, I don't think that there's any other patio quite like what Duck, duck Goose has going on. Speaker 1 00:02:35 That's, and the setting is such a part of the experience of a good restaurant, right? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I think of like, uh, and I'm gonna, I'm gonna pronounce this wrong, I always do Barina, Speaker 3 00:02:44 Barco. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Speaker 1 00:02:45 Barco. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And they're, uh, Spanish Mexican Speaker 3 00:02:48 Mexican. So the best thing about on the Waterfront Yeah. Is, is is the view. You're right on the waterfront. It's a really, really large restaurant. It's great for parties. They're open for lunch most days. You know, really expansive menu. Probably one of my favorite margaritas in, in the Fells Point, to be honest. They do a really, really good margarita, especially when the weather's nice sound that we're finally in spring, they raise the doors up, you know, all the breeze from the, from the harbor comes in and it's, it's really, really nice. Speaker 2 00:03:17 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. Their outdoor area is usually pretty busy. Mm-hmm. Speaker 1 00:03:21 <affirmative> now one of my favorites, uh, probably most of this area's favorites, theme Street, oyster House. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I mean, what a unique place. Inspired, uh, it's got a sort of Boston style inspiration mixed with a, a Maryland seafood mm-hmm. <affirmative>, uh, place. It's small. Yeah. Uh, there's a weight to get in. Yeah. Uh, but it's still Speaker 2 00:03:43 Good. Yeah. I mean, and oysters are like a very, um, quintessential, um, Chesapeake Bay kind of experience. Like that's a huge part of the culture of this area. Speaker 3 00:03:55 Yeah. And it's, you know, the best way I describe amt, Streete Oyster House, cuz it's probably my favorite restaurant in Fells Point, is it's, it's an East coast seafood experience. You know, I have, you know, call it small more, but I find it really funny that the head chef there is married to my high school English teacher, <laugh>, which I think is just like, such a small, like six degrees of Kevin Bacon kind of thing mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, but it's, it's a experience. The East Coast seafood, they have oysters from all up and down the East coast, they're known for their lobster role, which is, you know, crazy to think a Maryland restaurant has, I think a better lobster role than most of the cities I've been to in New England. Great. Crab cakes, I mean, everything is done well. Knowledgeable staff, really great service. A very, I'd say intimate atmosphere, you know, really nicely decorated. You know, it's a great spot for a date. It's a great place for a business dinner. It's a great place to bring family. It's, you know, I can't say, you know, enough good things about it. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:04:52 You want another good, uh, place for a date is, and, and there's so many choices. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> the Black Olive. Hmm. There's seafood selection there. I mean, when that place opened, it was like the place for, for for many years. Yeah. And then, uh, all these new restaurants popped up, uh, around it in, you know, Harbor Point and Harbor East, and of course all, everything in Fellows Point we're talking about, but, um, that the Black Olive is, is a go-to. We go there at least once, once a month, and they're known for their fresh fish and, and, um, they'll de-bone it at tableside. Speaker 2 00:05:22 Wow. That's, that's something you don't see happen too often anymore. Like that's kind of a lost art de-boning a fish tableside. It's kind of a lost art. Speaker 1 00:05:30 Yeah. So it's kind of fine dining, but not quite fine dining. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:05:33 Mm-hmm. Speaker 1 00:05:34 <affirmative>, um, I mean, it's got, it's got, uh, it's, it's like a hybrid sort of, um, Speaker 2 00:05:38 Maybe upscale casual. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> upscale ca So speaking of Speaker 3 00:05:41 Speaking of that, there's also Peter's Inn Oh yeah. Which is another fellows point. You'll 99% of the time miss it unless you know exactly where you're going. Cause it's so inconspicuous from the outside. Oh yeah. It's just, it's a row house that's like orange and blue, and you think like, what, who the, who the heck lives there? And it's one of the best restaurants at Fells Point inside Speaker 1 00:05:59 Their menu's different every night. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And, uh, it's small. It's, it's, um, Speaker 3 00:06:04 It is, it's very intimate. Speaker 1 00:06:05 It can be tough to get into mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Uh, but that's the, you know, that's, that's the beauty of it. It's just a really unique experience. It's, that's a, uh, that's an experience. Like if you're coming, if you have visitors from out of town and you want to give them like a Baltimore experience, like Yeah. Peters is, is a great place, Speaker 3 00:06:21 Great food, you know, very char, you know, all the staffer characters, you know, they, they know what they're doing, but they're all very fun. You, you get treated like friends or family, whether they love you or they hate you, you know? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, they give you sass a lot of times too, but it's awesome. I mean, there's just these hidden, you know, hidden gems like Speaker 1 00:06:38 Poppy's tacos mm-hmm. <affirmative> mm-hmm. <affirmative>. I mean, that's, that place is, is fantastic. And it's just got so much character. Speaker 2 00:06:43 Yeah. It's an institution. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:06:46 In terms of also Hidden Gems, I mean, one of my favorite places to go to for lunch outside of Cooper's is Thai Street and Broadway market. You know, there's, there's a bunch of great little restaurants. You have the ice cream place, you have chicken waffles, you have, you know, an old school deli. But the Thai place in there is, is awesome because a lot of times you get, you know, kind of like dumbed down, you know, food. They're not afraid to throw spice in there. Well, they Speaker 1 00:07:08 Have what I have, they have, uh, that was it, four levels of eat. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. My wife ordered food from there once, and I was, I was eating some soup from there and my, uh, scalp started sweating and <laugh>. I Speaker 3 00:07:19 Believe that that's when, you know, Speaker 2 00:07:20 It's good. I believe that, I think that that top level of spice is called like, don't order. Yeah. Or something like that. Like it's so, it's, it's so extreme Speaker 3 00:07:28 When you say it and they look at you and they're like, are you sure? That's when, you know. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:07:31 I was, I thought I was having a medical condition. Yeah. I was like, what, what? Oh my God. What, uh, what level was that? I, I forget. But it was what are the mid-level? And I knew that, that Speaker 2 00:07:42 I go level one and I like spicy <laugh>. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:07:44 See, and this is not to deter you, you know, if you can't handle spice, I mean, their food is legit, you Speaker 2 00:07:49 Know? Yeah. It's really Speaker 3 00:07:50 Good. Don't let it deter you, but if you like to Speaker 1 00:07:51 Have, oh, I shouldn't deter you. It's, it, you know, I just knew that my level was one, one step below. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:07:59 Um, Speaker 1 00:08:00 What about, you know, uh, can't forget Abby Burger. What a great place. Oh, yeah. Every kind of burger you can think of. Speaker 3 00:08:06 That's right. That's, that's another one that's been there for, for a really long time. Um, you know, 30 different kinds of burgers. You can build your own. You have like 10 different styles of proteins, four different, you know, five, six different types of buns. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> 30, 40 different toppings to choose from. It's, it's like a build a bear for burgers, you know? Speaker 2 00:08:24 That's a great way to describe it, honestly. I love that so much, Nick. That's Speaker 3 00:08:29 Great. Build a burger. You know, build a burger. It's good work. I'm calling that now. Speaker 2 00:08:32 Yeah. Thank you. That's good stuff. Speaker 1 00:08:34 You know, I'm, I'm just going through the, the list. Chi Longos is a, a place where you Yeah. Go to like, maybe twice a month. Three times a month. Yep. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> got the robot host Speaker 2 00:08:42 Going. I know. I can't, I can't stop. It's the, it's, the thing that comes to mind for me is the robot host. I just, I've never seen one of those before. They're on the cutting edge of technology over there at Chi Long's <laugh> Speaker 1 00:08:53 Food, food, food's. Great. What about quirky places? I mean, I mean, Phelps Point is kind of known for having, um, some quirkiness to it. You know, I got Penny Black, I would say in that sort of mm-hmm. <affirmative> got some unique offerings. Uh, really cool, historic, uh, building that's been there a long time. Yes. Really, really good food. Speaker 3 00:09:11 Really good food. I mean, it's, you know, it's very inconspicuous from the outside. You, you would pass it, you know, like you would most, and then when you walk in, it's very old school. It's, it's mahogany wood paneling, it's burgundy paint. It's, it's, it gives you a very time. Yeah. It's like you're going back in time transported. And the food doesn't necessarily represent that. I think what they do is they do a smaller menu, done really well. They'd have a great burger. They do awesome specials. You know, whenever we go in the specials are always kinda like what I ordered. They had like pot pies a couple of weeks ago and they were awesome. Mm-hmm. Um, you know, really, really nice staff. Really quaint, you know, really small corner spot and it's awesome. I love it. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:09:52 You know, when I think of small spots too, I think of Twist, uh, which every time I go there, it just has like the freshest salads and ingredients and, and uh, that's like, you know, you, you would, if you blinked, you would miss it walking down the street on Speaker 2 00:10:05 Broadway. Yeah. I actually don't know where it is. Speaker 1 00:10:08 It's, um, it's right next to Chopt Tank. Oh, Speaker 2 00:10:10 Okay. Speaker 1 00:10:11 Another, another, um, really one of the best, uh, places with outdoor seating. Yeah. And, uh, crab Crab house. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> in, in the center of Phils Point. Huge lot of elbow room inside, outside. Speaker 2 00:10:22 Yeah. They have live music all the time. It's really the place I feel like if you wanna show some out-of-town guests. Yeah. The crab picking experience. I took my cousin there and the manager like sat down with us and demoed a crab, you know, and went through the whole thing and it was, it was a really great experience. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:10:43 But I want to touch back on Funky and Eclectic and you can't talk about funky and eclectic without talking about Blue Moon. Speaker 2 00:10:50 Oh yeah. Speaker 3 00:10:51 Which is the funkiest, eclectic place from the artwork on the walls to the music that they play to the food that they make. I mean, huge portions with just weird kind of mad scientist, captain Concoctions, captain Crunch, French Toast. I mean, like who comes up with that? But then once you have it, you're like, you know, you kind of get it and you know, you drink the Kool-Aid a little bit and you're like, you know. Wow. And like everything they do, you know, breakfast and lunch is, is awesome. There's always people lined up to go and eat at Blue Moon, which is Speaker 2 00:11:22 Great. Yep. Very generous portions. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> as well. Mm-hmm. Speaker 1 00:11:25 <affirmative>. And I wanna get back to, uh, date night am Embassy. Speaker 2 00:11:29 Oh, yeah. Speaker 1 00:11:30 I mean, on the waterfront. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, uh, it's on the edge of, uh, you know, you might not think about it cuz it's on the edge of Fell's Point right now at a Harbor Point, but what I, what a great restaurant. Um, great views. Right, right there in the water. Speaker 2 00:11:41 Yep. My, uh, husband and I actually met working there like eight years ago when it was Waterfront Kitchen. Um, and it's, it's also a very cool location because it's in the Frederick Douglass Museum. So if you're like a history person, there's also a lot there. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, and they, they work with a lot of different programs working with, um, disadvantaged youths and stuff like that. So, so that's mm-hmm. <affirmative> mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. So that's, that's really, really cool. And it's, it's nice to see them supporting the community in that way. Yeah. Is really important. Speaker 3 00:12:15 Yeah. And two, they have a great brunch. Oh yeah. And I will say I'm a self-proclaimed basic, so, you know, I know where all the grass brunch spots are, cuz that's obviously a big thing for people in Baltimore. So Amsi has a great brunch. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, our cos has a great brunch, um, slant, which is right next door to Cooper's. It's an Irish place, great brunch. Um, man, where else, um, chop Tank actually really has a good brunch mm-hmm. <affirmative> mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, and I'm trying to think. Waterfront Hotel has a really good brunch mm-hmm. <affirmative> and Yeah. It's a great place to kind of have a, a Sunday fun day. Yeah. You know, which is Speaker 1 00:12:51 Great. So one, you know, one of the things about, uh, fells Point is we're surrounded by Harbor Point Harbor, east Canton, butchers Hill, and in other episodes we're talking about all of those areas. But there are so many good spots, uh, that you can get to that are right outside of Fells Point. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I mean, we can go on and on Speaker 3 00:13:09 This episode could easily be like three hours. Yes. Because as, as people who like, love to eat and I, we get very animated about food. Like, I'm already like starving talking about all this <laugh>, you know, it's nice that we're kind of, you know, you can go anywhere and find great food, great dining, wherever you go in Speaker 1 00:13:24 Baltimore. And that's the attraction for a lot of people when they move to PS point. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> is you, you have that lifestyle where you can go to one of like 50 different places depending on what you're feeling, what, what, what style of food or what sort of setting you want, right? Speaker 2 00:13:37 Yeah, absolutely. Something for every, every occasion. Speaker 1 00:13:40 So, Nick, Caitlin, myself, we're real estate agents and our office is right here in PS point. So if you're interested in exploring Fells Point or any of the surrounding communities, uh, any of the cities surrounding the beltway, uh, for that matter, reach out. Our contact info is in this post. Look forward to seeing you next episode. Take care.
