Speaker 1 00:00:02 Hey guys. Welcome to another episode of Moving to Maryland. Today we're gonna talk about a historic neighborhood in Towson. Stoney. I'm here with Caitlin. Nick. Megan. Hey guys. Hey, good
Speaker 2 00:00:11 Morning.
Speaker 1 00:00:11 Hi. So Nick, real, real simply, where is this, uh, neighborhood located?
Speaker 2 00:00:14 So it's, uh, central Baltimore County. So it's just north of the Baltimore City border. So it's, um, right off of York Road, just south of 6 95 in Towson, just north of, you know, like Belvedere Square and places like, um, Northern Baltimore City. So it's a great central location right on
Speaker 1 00:00:31 The border. Awesome. Caitlin, you spent some time in only growing up, didn't you?
Speaker 3 00:00:34 Yep. I, I grew up in the neighborhood right next door, Rogers Forge, but I had lots of friends who lived in Towson and honestly spent a lot of, uh, time in the summer at Stoney Pool, which is, you know, knows about that pool. Uh, uh, the heart of the community, I would say is, is the Pool and Stoney Elementary. So yeah. Very familiar with that neighborhood.
Speaker 1 00:00:54 And Megan, you almost bought a house in Stoney?
Speaker 4 00:00:56 Yes, Stoney, uh, is definitely has a place in my heart and I will forever love it, even though I never lived there. But, um, <laugh>,
Speaker 1 00:01:04 We ended
Speaker 4 00:01:04 Up in Rockton. That was, yes, we did. We were between Stoney and Roxon, which is very close. But, um, you know, it just for me, like it was almost like, I think Grace was saying, we were talking like it's a fairytale feel like the landscaping is mature, they're homes are just beautiful, and it's just like the whole community and family orient oriented vibe of the neighborhood Sure. Is kind of what drew us. So
Speaker 1 00:01:27 Like a fairytale sort of setting with It's
Speaker 2 00:01:30 Very
Speaker 4 00:01:30 Charming architecture.
Speaker 2 00:01:31 It is, yeah. It's a very charming neighborhood. It is. My mom, my friend's parents live there.
Speaker 1 00:01:35 That's great. It's, it's a, um, uh, pricier neighborhood. Yeah. And, uh, what year buying is, uh, a neighborhood that has, everybody's got a yard and mm-hmm. <affirmative>, like you said, mature landscaping and um, you know, because of that, it's a, it's a very affluent, um, you know, uh, uh, community that, uh, people like probably, cuz there's really good access to the regional jobs, wouldn't you say? Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:02:00 A hundred percent. I mean, it's, you know, just south of 6 95 in York Road, but right outside of the neighborhood you have gbmc St. Joseph's Medical Center, so two major hospitals in the region. You have Goucher College, Towson University. Um, and speaking of education, you know, you do have, you know, high schools, private schools, so anybody in education work, and then, you know, you have great access to downtown. So if you're working in the city, it's, you know, it's really, really close. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:02:26 Stoney Elementary is a big draw for that neighborhood, isn't it? Yes,
Speaker 4 00:02:29 Definitely.
Speaker 2 00:02:30 Yeah. And the private schools as well, you have Calvert Hall right outside of the neighborhood, you know, Towson High, um, and all of the other, you know, private schools in, in the re in the region are just outside that neighborhood.
Speaker 1 00:02:41 So when you're in a neighborhood that, uh, has yards and green space and less retail and restaurants, so there does have some, some choices, uh, especially Stoney. You have all the, uh, uh, access and amenities of all of the other Towson neighborhoods, house and Town Center. Uh, let's talk a little bit about that, Caitlin. What, what, uh, what sorts of, like, if you live in Stoney, what, what, what are you, um, uh, like what are you doing every day? Like,
Speaker 3 00:03:05 Well, first of all, you have the giant right down the street. It's probably your closest local grocery store. Um, and in that shopping center you have Fortune Autos, which was like a personal favorite for me for pizza growing up. Um, you've got Ritas right up the street mm-hmm. <affirmative> Royal Farms, you have the Charmie, um, fantastic ice cream. There's like a juice bar and a Starbucks that's right there. Um, but if you wanna drive up the street a little bit, um, you've got the Towson Town Center, which has pretty much any like retail store that you're looking for. I mean, it's a huge mall. Sure,
Speaker 4 00:03:38 Yeah. You got the mall, it's got Nordstrom, lot of like higher end mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, stores and companies. But you also have the whole whole market. The Whole Foods market is over there. Um, a lot of hair salons, um, just, just a whole bunch that you of options, restaurants. Yeah. Yeah. You're the perennial,
Speaker 2 00:03:55 No short of any option you're looking for, like with food, I mean, even going, you know, a grocery shopping and things like that, you're, you have everything right outside
Speaker 1 00:04:04 Your front door, so it's unique. You get historic housing, so it's not, there's no new construction Stoney mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Right. So you get that, you get yards, you get, uh, it's, it's walkable. I mean, you gotta walk a little further than say like a Fells Pointer in a Harbor neighborhood, but you can still walk to some places. Right?
Speaker 3 00:04:18 Oh, yeah. I mean, and I will say, you'd probably say that the Towson Town Center is not exactly walkable from, uh, stoneley, but I can attest that I walked from, you know, that area to the Towson Town Center all the time as a kid. It is definitely, it's doable. And you also have the Senator Theater right down the street, which is really cool. That's like a historic movie theater in Baltimore. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:04:42 And, uh, lock Raven Reservoir is just a short little bike ride or a ride. Uh, it's fantastic, uh, hiking and, uh, cycling and do a little bit of mountain biking. Yeah.
Speaker 4 00:04:52 I
Speaker 2 00:04:52 Mean, also, and for golfers like me. Yeah, I was just about to say that you have Country Club of Maryland, literally right down the street. And then if you, you know, don't wanna live that country club lifestyle, you do have Mount Pleasant, which is one of my favorite Baltimore City public courses, which Baltimore City has awesome public golf courses for anybody who does golf. Um, it's a short, you know, you pay like $25 a month, you get discounted fees and, but Mount Pleasant's right there, uh, it's great.
Speaker 1 00:05:16 So, um, it's known as having like a really nice neighborly vibe. Was that something that attracted you to looking in into mine
Speaker 4 00:05:22 There? Yeah, so I, um, didn't know, well, I knew about Stoneley. I just like really didn't like, know much about it when I was first looking to move there. Um, but I ended up looking up like the Stoneley community itself. Like there's a whole website, there's a, you know, it's like a community board, so you're talking to your neighbors, they have events like all the time, especially at the pool. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, yoga, like neighborhood get togethers. Um, so it's just like the strong sense of community. There was a huge factor in like, considering to move there.
Speaker 1 00:05:53 Yeah. And so the, uh, real estate has been, uh, around for a while, so I'm sure it's been passed down through some generations. So you have probably some long time families that have been there and kind of set that, you know, uh, real, really, uh, cool neighborhood vibe. Uh, let's talk about real estate for a minute. Like, what are the, uh, real estate options? Talk about architecture. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> price ranges.
Speaker 2 00:06:14 So it's like, we kind of touched on it. It's a little bit more of an affluent neighborhood, I mean, for sure. But the, the housing, you know, is very charming. You have all these stone front houses, these Dutch colonial style. So it's a really architecturally, like, very appealing neighborhood for a lot of people. And, you know, price ranges go from something that needs a little bit of work in like the upper 400 thousands to fully renovated additional added space houses pushing closer to a million dollars. Um, but even outside, if you like that charm, there's honestly to the south, which is much more affordable. It's also an older neighborhood. You have Roge Forge, which is really, really close as well. It's another historic neighborhood. And then if you want a little bit more of a metropolitan, you can push down into the city, like the Belvedere Square area or go up north. And, and Towson has a lot more options as well, if you wanna be more closer to the action. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> without being, you know, downtown.
Speaker 1 00:07:05 So growing up, uh, right next door, what did you see Stoneley as like, um, you know, where, where, where, um, you know, you had some, uh, you know, friends that had, uh, parents that were a little more successful, or what was, what was the uh,
Speaker 3 00:07:19 Yeah, I mean, there was definitely like a, a Stoney versus Rogers Forge kind of vibe. You know, <laugh> like the houses there are definitely, like, it's, it's a step above. No two of those houses are the same. Um, the attention to detail is really fantastic and the, the layout of the streets is completely different. Like, when they designed Stoneley, they wanted to make sure that they were, um, staying true to the natural landscape and keeping all of the older trees so the roads kind of like wind around a little bit. And you know, it's, uh, you can get kind of lost, you know, where Roger's forges, it's a grid, you know? Yeah, sure. Um, so yeah.
Speaker 1 00:07:59 And so when you were looking, what would you say was the thing that, uh, as you got to know it, uh, a little more, that really, uh, made you think, wow, like, this is a really cool neighborhood.
Speaker 4 00:08:11 So, because my husband and I are newly like, newlyweds and we were like thinking of growing a family, like to have, like to picture a family, like starting a family there was perfect. Like, I couldn't have imagined anything better. It was like, almost like your like American dream. Like you got your, your, you know, your beautiful houses, like beautiful tree lined streets, and all the neighbors are walking their kids and their dogs. And it's just, you know, that, that kind of like, very welcoming. Yes. It was a really good feel. And then also I, I liked having very good accessibility, especially to Starbucks and Charmie, which is literally two seconds away from the house that we were looking at. So
Speaker 1 00:08:47 That, that sounds great. So Caitlin, Nick, Megan, myself, are real estate agents with the Greatest Moves team at Remax Advantage. And if you're interested in Stoney or any of the other Towson neighborhoods, are any of the, uh, cities around the beltway or neighborhoods in Baltimore City, we'd love to help you out. Take care. See you next episode.
